MEC LEHARI APPLAUDS DELAREYVILLE COMMUNITY FOR RE-ARREST OF ESCAPEES The MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management Sello Lehari applauded assistance by the community that led to rearrest of awaiting trial detainees. Whilst citizens countrywide were adhering to lockdown regulations and safely relaxed in their residential places, the three awaiting trial detainees took advantage and escaped. The three escaped from the Delareyville Police Station in the early hours of Saturday, 18 April 2020. It was discovered during the routine cell inspection at the station that the three detainees forced open roof burglar bars of the one of the cells and escaped. Members of the police were immediately mobilized and followed up information which led them to a house in Kopela Village where the first two escapees, 24 year old Brian Moshe Mocks Chacha and 27 year old Success Kuda Phiri were re-arrested. The third detainee, a 20 year old Kagiso Nakedi, was re-arrested with the assistance of the community members who took upon themselves to join the police search. Nakedi was in police custody for two burglary and theft charges. He is expected to appear at the Delareyville Magistrate Court on Monday, 04 May 2020, for escaping. Chacha and Phiri are expected to re-appear at the Magistrate Court on Monday, 25 May 2020 also for escaping. MEC Lehari said the re-arrest reassures the community that there is not and shall be no hiding place from the law by law breakers. “Nothing can beat an integrated approach. Working together as communities, police and government we will definitely win the battle against crime and all these criminals will stay behind bars where they belong,” said MEC Lehari thankful of the Delareyville police and community.
